The Agony And The Ecstasy Film Poster

Pope Julius II: When will you make an end?
Michelangelo: When I am finished!

Nominated for five Academy Awards, this film is based on the 1961 biographical novel by Irving Stone (who also wrote “Lust for Life”). It stars Charlton Heston as Michelangelo and Rex Harrison as Pope Julius II. This film covers the struggle between Michelangelo and the pope over the painting of the Sistine Chapel ceiling.

This film has many great quotes, including “You dare to dicker with your pontiff?” and “We are harlots always peddling beauty at the doorsteps of the mighty.” This is a long one, so make sure that you have plenty of popcorn!
